Towards the end of the school year, Christian tried out for a pre-competitive swim team in our area. The coach told us that with a few private lessons focusing on the butterfly and breast stroke, Christian would be ready to join the team! Christian has been swimming every morning with the team and absolutely LOVES it! He even willingly gets up early to finish his summer homework before practice. Now that's what I call devotion :)
Saturday was his very first swim meet. He was so nervous. He told me the night before that he didn't even care if his dive from the start was "pretty", he was just going to shoot in like a bullet :) Belly-flop or what not, he did not care. While the meets are basically just for fun and practice at this point, you would have thought Christian was off to the Olympic games. Each swimmer was presented with a ribbon following each of the five events. Their finishing time written on the back. Christian placed second place in his heat for the backstroke and freestyle and third in the individual medley. I do believe there was a little extra pride in his normally happy stride as we left the pool that morning. Way to go, Christian!
